Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina Jolie Voight, (born June 4, 1975, Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American actress and director who is known for her sexy appeal and edginess and also for her humanitarian work. Jolie, the daughter and actor Jon Voight, was raised in New York. After her growing up, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she played the role of the mental patient in Girl, interrupted (1999). She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years, and was then accepted into Beverly Hills High School. New York University later taught her drama. She also appeared in theatre productions as well as modeled for music videos. It was during Hackers (1995) that Jolie first met Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married in 1996, divorced in 1999). The film did not find an audience, and neither did another series of films. Jolie, who played the role of Alabama's segregationist governor's wife attracted a lot of attention in 1997. She later won the Golden Globe Award. In the HBO movie Gia in which she played a supermodel suffering from drug addiction. The actress was awarded numerous honors, including the Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. In 1999 she appeared in the comedy Pushing Tin with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and that same year, she got married Thornton (divorced 2003).After her Oscar-winning performance in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie appeared in a string of action-oriented films. Jolie played the girlfriend of the carjacker (Nicolas Cage), in Gone in Sixty Seconds 2000. Then, she took on the British accent and learned street fighting and kickboxing to take on the roles in Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2001 and Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life 2003. In 2004, she played the mother of Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone's Alexander as well as starred alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a science-fiction thriller set in 1930s New York City. Both films failed at the box office however Jolie made a splash with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) in which she played an assassin posing as a normal housewife; while making the film she met Brad Pitt, who became her co-star.
